The Senate was informed today that over two million smart electricity meters have been installed across the country to reduce electricity theft and address technical issues.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said smart meters have also helped increase recovery of power distribution companies.

Replying to another question, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said seventy-two thousand one hundred twenty-six million cubic feet of gas and six point seven three million barrels of oil have been produced by OGDCL and other companies from oil and gas fields in Lakki Marwat and Karak during the last three years.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice in the House, Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal said the government is taking concrete steps to address issues related to medicine prices and their availability.

He said the Federal Government has constituted a Cabinet Committee comprising six Ministers to examine matters relating to medicine pricing and their approvals.

He said around 85 percent of medicines consumed in Pakistan are manufactured locally, while concerns over the availability of certain unregulated medicines in the market are being addressed.

Mustafa Kamal said the registration process for medical devices, which previously took two and a half years, can now be completed within twenty days through an online portal by filling out just a single form.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan has said the government is making every effort to act in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the medical check-up and treatment of PTI’s founding chairman.

Responding to points raised by Senator Ali Zafar in the Senate, he said a panel of doctors has examined and declared him healthy, while the opposition has also said he is in good health.

He said the government has provided him with the best available treatment for his medical condition in prison before his recent medical check-up.

Rana Sanaullah said the government has implemented the Supreme Court’s directions and will continue to comply with any future orders, the court issues.

Speaking on the matter, Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal said two CT angiography machines are functional at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad.

He said if a patient’s vital signs are normal, he cannot be referred for a CT angiography scan or other procedures.

Mustafa Kamal said the government is not showing any carelessness regarding the health of PTI’s founding chairman.
