At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for an immediate halt to violence in Sudan, and urged renewed efforts for a Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led political process.

The call was made by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad while delivering statement at the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Sudan.

He strongly condemned attacks by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Sudan, and warned of imminent risk of mass atrocities.

The Ambassador called on the Rapid Support Forces to refrain from further escalation and fully comply with international humanitarian law.

He also expressed concern over the increasing use of drones and advanced weaponry, stressing that it is causing greater civilian casualties, disrupting humanitarian operations, and heightening the risk of wider escalation.

Reiterating Pakistan's principled position, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar underscored that Sudan's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and national institutions must be preserved.

He said there can be no military solution to the conflict, and Sudan's peace and stability are closely linked to the security of the wider African and Arab regions.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar stressed that restoring stability in Sudan should be regarded as a collective international responsibility.

He reaffirmed Pakistan's continued support for the efforts of the United Nations and other bodies and regional partners to end the conflict, and help the country return to peace and constitutional order.
