PM stresses effective mechanisms for implementation of UNSC resolutions

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the need to devise effective mechanisms for the faithful implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, respect for international law and treaties to promote global peace, security and prosperity.

He was talking to Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, the candidate for the position of the United Nations Secretary-General, who called on him in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's abiding resolve to uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. He reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast and unwavering commitment to multilateralism.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of ensuring balanced progress across the three pillars of the United Nations - peace and security, development and human rights.

He particularly emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of the global development agenda and strengthen international cooperation to address the pressing challenges, facing the developing countries.

In her remarks, Ms. Rebeca Grynspan appreciated Pakistan's longstanding and valuable contributions to the United Nations and commended the country's constructive role in recent regional peace efforts.
